It all started with a humble cup of tea. An ambitious young tea merchant opened a grocery store in 1834 that would relocate to Knightsbridge, London, and go on to become the Harrods you know today. His name was Charles Henry Harrod, and the prestigious reputation of his store was built on the outstanding quality of his teas. As Harrods grew, the importance of tea was never forgotten.
Today, in our Knightsbridge store, we sell more than 150 varieties, and our quest for the finest teas has taken us from the lofty hillsides of Darjeeling to the mineral-rich slopes of Hawaii. Our Darjeeling tea is grown exclusively for Harrods on the Okayti Estate tea plantation, where we are proud to use sustainable cultivation and harvesting methods to create a unique Harrods’- own blend. As well as perfecting the classics, we have speciality teas to expand your palate, from Idulgashinna green to Gyokuro Supreme, alongside much-coveted micro-batches of firstflush Darjeeling. 
Harrods’ first rooms were unveiled in 1911 when The Georgian restaurant opened on the Fourth Floor. The Times called it “the largest restaurant in London, seating 1,200 persons at a time” and it became famous for the tea dances that took place there after the First World War. Over the years, every little detail has been meticulously perfected to ensure the ultimate afternoon-tea experience. 
The Harrods Tea Rooms in Shanghai brings this rich heritage of celebrating tea to another historic architectural gem, Cha House, in the heart of the city. We are proud to serve a selection of traditional afternoon-tea dishes with a contemporary, interactive twist, designed by our expert team of patisserie chefs in London.
